During the cold winter months I could
think of plenty of places I would rather be than wedged-in a tiny dingy
with three other explorers, Struggling to keep our camera
equipment dry whilst fighting currents across the river medway.
But we were on a mission (or an epic pirate voyage, Arrrrgh!)
I've been waiting over three years to go here but due to one thing or another it just never happened.
However with a weekend off and some good company I finally found myself under the moores of Middleton, a small village in Derbyshire set in the southern margin of the peak district where the last working limestone mine in the uk is located.
This bunker hidden under Sovereign House in Hertford has always been at the back of my mind since I first heard about it in 2004. Local newspapers at the time were always mentioning secret tunnels running throughout the town and this bunker was said to lead into them. So not only a bunker to explore but apparently an extensive set of tunnels too? Surely this was to good to be true?
